Massage (relaxing and remedial)

(Currently Toowoomba only)

I have close to 20 years' experience in massage therapies, having worked at 4 and 5 star hotels and day spas in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, as well as in my home-based business. I have studied different styles of bodywork, and plan to create my own online course in delivering top-shelf service as a therapist.

My 'style' is a combination of relaxing and gentle remedial massage, with a little nervous-system calming, and energy medicine thrown in.

Hot Stone Massage

(Currently Toowoomba only)

I use a large set of basalt stones, shaped by nature in Hawaii. They are great for going deeply into large, tense, muscles, benefiting your circulation, metabolism, joints, and soft tissues (and really cosy feelings).

ASMR ("autonomous sensory meridian response")

Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a sensory and emotional phenomenon, characterized by the experience of a ‘tingling’, static-like sensation, which is generally called paresthesia. The tingling can be felt at the scalp, back of the neck, upper spine, or in further bodily areas. The sensation is in response to specific audio -, visual -, or tactile stimuli, which include whispering, soft-speaking, tapping, scratching, slow and expert hand movements, and close personal attention. ASMR  has gained a good deal of popularity amongst new generations and media culture over the last few years.

ASMR significantly affects several neurological and physiological systems.  Although not many people experience the 'tingles', most will experience:

  • increased brain activity in the medial prefrontal cortex (linked to self-awareness and social cognition) and the nucleus accumbens (the brain's reward centre)

  • the release of "feel-good" chemicals like dopamine (reward), oxytocin (bonding/relaxation), and endorphins, and,

  • a reduced heart rate (parasympathetic activation) alongside increased skin sensitivity.

Many people watch ASMR videos online and feel its benefits. After receiving my first live session, I can say that I am intrigued and excited to offer this alternate soothing touch-and-sound modality in person.
